Trasylol Kidney Failure & Heart Attack Injury
Dr. Dennis Mangano was the lead author of a 2006 Trasylol side effects study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The observational study looked at leading worldwide cardiac centers in examining Bayer’s heart surgery medication Trasylol. Kidney failure, stroke, and heart attack are side effects linked to Trasylol heart surgery patients according to the Mangano study.
What is the damage done by Trasylol (Aprotinin)? The New England Journal of Medicine Mangano study reported disturbing information about Trasylol use in a study of 4,400 heart patients:
• Trasylol increases the risk of heart attack 48 percent.
• Trasylol increases heart failure by 109 percent.
• Trasylol increases the danger of stroke by 181 percent.
In reaction to the study, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory to medical professionals. The FDA advised doctors to carefully weigh the risks and benefits of Trasylol before administering it to a patient in an aprotinin injection.
Trasylol may be responsible for 10,000 patients unnecessarily being on kidney dialysis. Trasylol was given to many bypass heart surgery patients to help with blood clotting during their surgery.
Bypass surgery medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Trasylol. Side effects stated here do not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect. Trasylol kidney failure is one of the primary adverse events following use of the drug during heart surgery.
• Inflammation of the vein that the medicine is injected into, associated with a blood clot in that area (local thrombophlebitis)
• Allergic reactions (rare when given for the first time, but more likely if given again within six months of previous administration)
• Blood clot formation
• Heart attack
• Heart failure
• Abnormal heart beat
• Abnormal kidney function
• Kidney failure
If you or a loved one has had open heart surgery and then experienced Trasylol kidney failure, heart attack or stroke you may be able to file a Trasylol lawsuit. A Trasylol Lawyer can help evaluate your claim.

Patients and families nationwide have looked at filing a Trasylol lawsuit based on the often fatal side effects of the drug Trasylol. Currently no Trasylol class action suits have been filed by Fields Law Firm and claims are being made individually.
The lawsuits claim that Bayer, the drug’s manufacturer, was negligent in several ways including:

The Trasylol heart surgery drug has increasingly been linked to serious side effects including kidney failure and stroke following bypass surgery. Many patients and families have questioned whether Bayer’s heart medication, also referred to as “Aprotinin“, was used during their procedure. The problem is that without looking at the medical records from the day of [...]
Bayer’s widely used Trasylol heart surgery drug was subject to a recall in 2007 following a study that raised safety concerns. Prior to the recall, Trasylol (also referred to as Aprotinin) was used to help prevent excessive bleeding during open heart surgery. The study reported that Bayer’s heart surgery medication increased the risk of dying [...]
Following a Trasylol recall in 2007, Bayer’s heart surgery drug continued to be used during heart surgery even though cheaper and safer alternative drugs were available. Unfortunately, Trasylol was used until as recently as May 2008.In 1993, Trasylol (also referred to as “aprotinin”) received FDA approval for use in certain types of heart surgeries. Until [...]
Bayer’s problems are growing as they face thousands of potential Trasylol lawsuits following increasing reports of their heart surgery drug’s side effects. Trasylol has recently been linked to a higher risk of kidney failure, heart attack, and death in the five years following a patient undergoing bypass heart surgery. In 1993 Trasylol (Aprotinin) was approved [...]
